My new Fluval Chi!
I am so excited! I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it before but I love gardening. I love everything about it but we don’t have any space to garden here. When I first bought my goldfish’s fish tank I looked into live aquatic plants and I was instantly hooked. I can bring my love of gardening and plants to a whole new level! Not only that but I could provide Naruto and Sasuke...

My frustration with errthang
I’m pretty frustrated. I don’t know if there is a better word to sum up how I’ve been feeling lately. It’s almost like a depression. When I get like this I’m not motivated to work or create. I just sit on my couch, laptop in lap, and just think about how frustrated I am. I’m angry, I’m crabby, I’m a bitch to be around. Just being like this...

Sneak Peek: Prawn
A typeface I am finally getting around to possibly complete. It’s a display typeface and so far only the “Light” weight is 90% complete. I need to fix a lot of the circular round glyphs (think ‘O’, ‘C’, ‘G’) since they look a bit off. As for the weights I’m contemplating Light, Regular, and Medium/Bold. I still need to sketch out...

Introducing Nancy and Mochi!
I’m working on an illustration of my sister, Nancy, and her cat, Mochi, for a cute blog design as a Christmas present. Mochi is pretty crazy so I figured flopping on top of her head would be the best spot for her. It was fun!

Happy Holidays!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I wish I were at home back east but it’s not so bad here. For starters, the weather is in the 70’s. It’s time to make cinnamon rolls and get ready for dinner tonight. I hope everyone has a great holiday :)

Sneak Peek: Icons
Yup, I’m working on designing a set of pretty icons. Why? I was on the prowl for some eye candy but couldn’t find any that were just simple and nice. I came across a dozen of beautiful icons with their own theme and spin on them - but I just wanted something that could be used across the board. I’m hoping to finish these over the holidays as I’ll have ample time then!...

Relax (don't do it ... )
I drew this about a year ago and finally got around to doing something with it. In my mind I was going to paint this in my little mini-office on a wall to remind me to breathe and take it easy. Instead I became frustrated with it because of how long it was taking and what a huge ordeal it was. Call me lazy, but I decided to give up. I think I’ll just print it out instead! Check out a...

So, I've been digitally painting!
I’m not a traditional artist by any means but I am constantly amazed by the artwork of Sir Mitchell and his style. A lot of my co-workers also paint and I envy their skills. Lately I’ve been trying to teach myself how to digitally paint by reading tutorials but my friend Tamar, a talented artist and programer, turned me onto Ctrl Paint where I’ve been absorbing the videos....

I love you Meteor Games!
There had been rumors for a while that my company, Meteor Games, was going through some rough times. Little did I nor my co-workers know to what extent those rough patches were. We had a round of layoffs at the beginning of October where we lost 26 really talented friends. It affected all the departments (with the exception of Systems) and it just felt like everyone lost an arm. There were a lot...

Some more late night freelancing
Lately I’ve been finding myself very unmotivated and lazy in regards to any freelance work. It’s not that the projects are boring … I think it’s that I’m just tired. Either way, it’s really screwing up my process and schedule so I’m just pushing through. I’m just in a funk. I worked on some more bird illustrations tonight. This is my favorite from...

Wedding Invitations: Jenn & Chris
Just because I took a sick day from work doesn’t mean I just should sit around and be, well, sick. I managed to get laundry done, dishes washed, floors mopped, and finally got around to taking pictures of the wedding invitations I designed and created for my co-worker and his fiance. The weather here is a bit rainy today so my photos are all over the place in terms of color … ...

Frankie the amazing hot dog!
C’mon, you all knew this was coming. Frankie turned eight on the 10th of this month and it makes me so sad. My little wiener is getting old. He is, hands down, my best friend in the entire world. Frankie is the only one that I can talk to and he’ll genuinely listen (I like to think he is, at least). He knows how I’m feeling and knows just when to come lay in my lap. ...

[DIY] Lemon Bottle Tulips
Quick, easy, and down right cheap. I love love love flowers and gardening but renting in a city such as LA limits me to what I can actually do. I get it from my dad who used to grow squash as big as my forearm in his backyard. We’d catch people (usually old Asian grannies) stop by our copious amounts of mint leaves to snip some off and welcome them to do so. Dad would construct planters...

Hummingbird
Growing up in NJ I have never seen a hummingbird, ever. I’m not sure why? Maybe it was the city I lived in - Atlantic City. I’m going to guess that hummingbirds don’t really hang out at the beach too often. Whatever the reason, I saw my first hummingbird in Baldwin Park, CA … at the age of 25. I never realized how small and fast they were! This is an illustration I...

My living room!
I know, I’ve been going on a posting frenzy. I recently just rediscovered how awesome my camera was :) As promise, a shot of my new living room. If you don’t remember (or if you’ve just stumbled onto my blog) I moved from Baldwin Park, CA to Los Angeles, CA to be closer to work. I love moving because it’s a chance to decorate again but I hate moving because well, shit,...

Oh my lucky stars!
In my previous post I snapped a shot of some of my flea market goodies but I left one thing out. I bought a cute little round glass bowl that I was going to frost and use as a holder for my origami lucky stars. One of my really good friends, Michelle, came over and helped make some stars while we chit-chat and gossiped which made it a bit more special because now I’ve got stars made by...

I love flea markets!
Some of the goodies that I picked up today at the Melrose Trading Post here in Los Angeles. It’s basically a flea market that happens every Sunday from 9-5pm regardless of rain or shine. There is a vendor that sells nothing but printing blocks, letters, and plates. That’s where I picked up those two “stamps.” I really liked the small one because of it’s...

Hello, Los Angeles!
Recently (and by recently I mean June 25th) we’ve moved from Baldwin Park, CA to Los Angeles, CA. Yes! No longer will I have to suffer sitting in my car for up to 5hrs a day in traffic. I literally now live approximately 10-15 minutes from the office depending on “traffic.” We are considered “Beverly Hills Adjacent” and we even have one of those kooky...

Don't limit yourself
I don’t limit myself to design just interactive projects or even print projects. I try to apply it to everything which is why I enjoy interior decorating (a picture post of my condo shall soon follow) and gardening so much. The design aesthetics are there, you just need to apply them. So, behold, my new planters! I bought these bad boys from IKEA today. I’ve been looking everywhere...

Early Valentine's Day
I know, I’m a day early, but it’s better to be early then late! I wanted to do a poster series for this year’s V-day but I got distracted, lazy, and just couldn’t think of anything awesome. A couple of days ago, someone whom I follow on Tumblr posted some cheesy (yet cute) pick-up lines and so I started searching around for some more. My idea was to create a whole series...

My business cards featuring me!
When designing my business cards, I wanted to remain fun yet professional. So, what better way than to splash my face across the front side? The light gray text isn’t showing up, I blame the bad lighting. I know the title is kind of redundant, but what the hell. Photo courtesy of my iPhone4 and x-posted from Forrst!

Get Inspired: Target
I love going to Target because a) they have awesome stuff and b) a lot of their designs are cute and pretty. I like cute and pretty. My boyfriend and I were at Target in search of a big plastic container to store our wiener dog’s food in and I came across so many adorable things! So, I did what any other design-nerd would do, I proceeded to take pictures. I truly believe that my projects...

World Wise Animals
I’m working on a volunteer project designing a logo for a grassroots organization. They help shelters and rescues by any means necessary. I was given no creative brief or instructions except “Make it pretty”. They also do so much that it’s hard to create something that would combine all of it. So, instead, I went the “animal rescue” route and created the cute...

Love Your Body!
This was a poster design that I had started working on for the 2011 NOW Foundation’s Love Your Body contest. I got caught up in work among other things and never got to finish it to send it in. You know what that means! Another quick and dirty #daily365. I feel like I’m cheating, but hey, it happens. I finished it up tonight (there actually wasn’t much left to do) and...

This next illustration for my #daily365 is dedicated to my friend Lee’s son, Charlie (aka Charlie Bear). He is the main inspiration behind our soon-to-come toddler games for the iPhone/Android and one of the cutest kids you’ll ever meet. Thing is, I’ve never met him. But I’ve heard good things!

Job Interviews & Feelings
I’ve been going on a lot of job interviews lately because I’m looking for full-time work. Sure, freelance gigs are awesome, they are creative, and they are fun. I say the same thing every time. “It went...

How to create a Tumblr "Recent Posts" list
See it in action! When I was re-designing my portfolio site I wanted to add a “Recent Posts” section on my main page but realized that Tumblr didn’t have a widget available. I wasn’t ready to include my entire Tumblr onto my site so I was on a mission to find a way to display it. I wanted some control over what it would look like without having to have it load in an...

My website is going to be down for a bit while I update a few things. You’ll know when things are back to normal! I’m starting off the new year with a brand new design. This is v3.0 of my portfolio and I have to say, I like it a lot better. I simplified a lot of things and then … got a little too carried away. IE6, you’re still shit out of luck, sorry. Day 2 - Mr. Snail
Alright, so I’m a bit late on day 2, I got caught up! I’ve also decided to change my mind about the whole theme thing. Restricting myself is much harder than just being able to design whatever comes to mind. Jay was playing a game about snails, so here you go. Say hello to my little friend! Isn’t he precious? I’ve never seen a real snail until we moved to California....

Welcome, 2011!
As promised, I am starting the #daily365 where I design something every day. I’m going to try and stay on track, I promise. Kind of. Well, here it is, numero uno! You know, it’s actually kind of hard to sit here and try and think of something to illustrate. I even gave myself a theme, Baked Goods. Hopefully this gets easier once my brain gets it’s creative juices flowing. Is...

New Year's Resolution
Resolutions, rather. I never just make one. I think I like having more than one because if I fail one I always have the others to fall back on. Of course, this doesn’t work when I don’t even bother with the rest of them. This year, one my resolutions is to be a bit more creative and productive. This means I am participating in the #daily365 and maybe the 365 Project as well. The...

It's been raining all weekend
I’ve been working on a short-term contract with EA and this place is awesome. From the buildings themselves to the people, it’s been fun. I wished that the position had more of a creative side to it (it’s been more of web producing and development) but they can’t all be gems! My last day is Wednesday - then it’s back to the ol’ job hunting again. But, EA has...

Project management, done right!
I have used and tried about as many project management applications and software out there. I still haven’t been able to find a single one that is reasonable in price yet packs a great punch when it comes to usability and features - that is, until I found Apollo. So, what is Apollo, exactly? As it’s tag line says, it is project and contact management, done right. I couldn’t...

Get Inspired: Fossil boxes
I love visiting the Fossil store because they have an entire wall dedicated to their Fossil boxes. The designs are so different, delicate, edgy, unique, the list goes on. I tried to purchase just an empty box but I was told I couldn’t. Damn, their boxes were almost enough incentive to buy a new watch! Oh well, guess I’ll just make trips and take pictures like a creeper :)

It bothers me that the extender in the “x” is almost touching the “m” in media, but that’s how they want it so that’s what they get! A really simple and clean approach which was easy since they basically told me what they wanted and what colours.
