1. Wedding Invitations: Jenn & Chris

    October 5, 2011

Just because I took a sick day from work doesn’t mean I just should sit around and be, well, sick. I managed to get laundry done, dishes washed, floors mopped, and finally got around to taking pictures of the wedding invitations I designed and created for my co-worker and his fiance.

The weather here is a bit rainy today so my photos are all over the place in terms of color …

Chris is a genius game designer where I work and he’s one of the most hilarious persons there. He’s also a board game geek and a huge BSG fan. His fiance, Jenn, is a talented pianist and works for various school districts as a piano instructor among other gigs. They both love to cook (and are great at it), love to have people over, and are two of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.

They wanted an invitation that was a bit more personal, fun, and more “them.” What better way then an illustration of the lovely couple? We wanted to bring together their different cultures (Chris is Mexican, Jenn is Japanese) so we decided on traditional clothing.

Jenn was behind the decision making every step of the way. She allowed me to determine the style and the approach while giving me great feedback and suggestions (I learned so much about the kimono). Michelle actually helped me with Chris’ body as I couldn’t get the angle right. He looked wonky when I did it!

After all the invitations were printed and cut, Jenn and Chris recruited some very good friends to come over and we had a “Invitation Assembly” party! The musical stylings of Ke$ha somehow made it’s way onto the playlist and we might have gotten some scotch on one or two but it was so much fun! If you look closely, you’ll notice that we cut up tiny pieces of origami for Jenn’s obi (the belt in the middle), a glitter sticker flower in Jenn’s hair, and a tiny red bow on Chris. The obi and the bow was the most tedious but we got it done.

In total we made about 100 and they have all been sent out. Everyone loved them! They’ve asked me to help them on their wedding programs, escort cards, and place cards. I can’t wait!
